MINERAL: Amethyst (Quartz) - Miniature

LOCATION:Las Vigas Region, Veracruz Mexico

This Amethyst cluster radiates crystals from a central quartz plate. The color darkens on each crystal as it extends from the clear base. The crystals are all clear and transparent. None show any damage under 10x magnification. The largest crystal measures 23 mm. Clean, bright, and perfect. A showpiece miniature. It measures 1.5 inches across.

LOCATION:Yaogangxian Mine, Hunan Province, China

Jet black, vitreous 30 x 15 x 5 mm crystals of Ferberite with small clear quartz crystals the largest of which measures 18mm. No damage.
Ferberite is the iron endmember of the manganese - iron wolframite solid solution series. The manganese endmember is hübnerite. Ferberite is a black monoclinic mineral composed of iron(II) tungstate, FeWO4.

Very showy Arsenopyrite with translucent quartz crystals. The overall specimen is 7 x 7 x 2 cm with larger arsenopyrite crystal to 10 mm. At just under 3 inches in height, the specimen is well proportioned, and bright. No damage on this miniature.

This miniature of attractive, very white calcite blades on bright silver Arsenopyrite is an excellent example of the minerals from the productive Yaogangxian Mine. This specimen measures 5cm x 3cm x 3cm (2 x 1.5 x 1.5 inches) With its high specific gravity, the Arsenopyrite makes this a remarkably heavy specimen for its size.

Translucent crystals of colorless Barite with a very small amount of matrix. The specimen is 3.5 x 4 x 3 cm with crystals to 20 x 5 mm. Barite has a rather high specific gravity. This specimen is heavier than you would expect. No damage. Collected in 2006.
